Pattern Recognition
There are a lot of themes in this book, but one that interests me the most is that humans have a natural tendency to search for meaning. The characters in this book are constantly experiencing patteren recognition (hence the name of the book) and finds connections in meaningless data. Cayce becomes an ideal perspective of the system., although thought at first as a "rebel." Throughout her whole life (in the novel) she is always interperting patterns. Cayce's mom becomes obsessed with this when her father disappears. She investigates electronic voice phenomena to find him.

The idea of pattern recognition is not a new one, although it is explained wonderfully in this book. The story really explains the idea of pattern recognition in a simplistic and obvious sort of way. It makes it so much easier to understand than I have found anywhere else.
Tacey-- I liked your inerpretation of patterns. I though it was a great point you had with her mother also becomming obsesed with patterns.
