Pattern Recognition

There are a lot of themes in this book, but one that interests me the most is that humans have a natural tendency to search for meaning. The characters in this book are constantly experiencing patteren recognition (hence the name of the book) and finds connections in meaningless data. Cayce becomes an ideal perspective of the system., although thought at first as a "rebel." Throughout her whole life (in the novel) she is always interperting patterns. Cayce's mom becomes obsessed with this when her father disappears. She investigates electronic voice phenomena to find him.

cyberbullying

This story is really sad, as if we don't have enough bullying in real life. I dont think Megan even thought of the idea that the guy was made up or not, but it can be hard to tell a true profile from a made up one. There are ways you can tell, if the person doesn't have many photos of themselves, it could be a sign. Keeping their story straight all the time. I dont know exactly HOW but i dont think thats what kids think about today. The story becomes worse when I found out that a parent was the one bullying; shouldn't they be teaching their kids a little more about morals? Besides the point of what kind of person this lady is, I personlly feel like she should be charged with something, she was directly linked to the suicide.

The second is about "trolling" i think its ridiculous, but people have their own ways of expressing their feelings towards something, sometimes it could be taken a little to far. Its funny how Fortuny does it for experiments, but the question of ethics comes in.

Web page

Well we finished out wikipedia page today http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_Mountaineer. Its not exactly what we wanted, but hopefully after the project is done we can go back and make it pretty. Want to add some pictures and such. The 2 tasks I did were editing pages. I added something to my hometown page of New Kensington http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Kensington and I edited/updated a page on my highschool, which I was pretty suprised to find. I would like to do more on this page, but didn't have the time to practically do the page, its real unfinished. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Kensington. A lot of the stats were old, the best I can find was something one more year updated, and the website was wrong. Definatly going to go back and work on some of these pages that mean something to me.

Wikipedia tasks

The tasks that I probably will do is edits. I'm pretty good at grammer editing, I use to be an english major 4 years ago, so I have alittle experience on that. The tasks I will most likely do will be cleanup, and copy editing.

Creative Commons License

For my creative commons license I chose to let people use my work. I think that any information is valuable and if mine can help someone else with their work then I want to help. I didn't let anyone modify it because if its my work its how I want it to be already. No one can modify my facebook or my other webpage, I guess its kind of a personal thing. I don't mind any advice or comments but if I wrote it, it was for a reason. I feel like this is good for people that are trying to make a living out of writing or artistry. They need their stuff to be licensed.
I don't agree to Barlow's declaration that legal concepts of property, expression, identity, movement, and context do not apply to us. He is talking about physical matter and doesn’t take into account that the internet is giving us new identities. Most things on my facebook coincide with my real life. But some people make up a whole new life on the internet.
