Response 1

A memex is a device in which an individual stores all his books, records, and communications, and which is mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility. It is an
enlarged intimate supplement to his memory. A memex kind of resembles palm pilot, which can store anything you want. It is for individual use and some can use the internet. Idenitity and mind are related to the memex machine because its your own individual machine. In the reading the author describes many different kinds of people that would be using it. i.e. chemists, lawyers, historians, and how this new device can help these people with their work and also their personal life. Gioia and Iyengar's article didn't take in account for the new electronics that are already out, so their only argument about people not reading more is books and novels. I think they would approve of it IF books were being read. On the other hand Grusin took in account for all the new technoligies that are around. I think he would approve of it. I actually think something like this will help improve his argument of the new technoligy being important to knowledgeable.
